If you're not from Canada you might not know that we celebrate Thanksgiving in October rather than November. So, technically today is Thanksgiving (October 12th, 2015) although my family and I celebrated yesterday. We celebrate the Sunday mainly so that on the Monday we can all just veg out and eat leftover turkey sandwiches, and not have to worry too much about guests and getting ready for people. This year's Thanksgiving was quite the event as always. We have 14 people at the dinner, although by the end of the night two more were added.
Being away at schools sucks because I feel like I'm already missing out on so many family events (even though really it was only one big family dinner on father's day, and a few dinners and get together's with my sister here and there). Ultimately I'm not really missing much, but it sure feels that way. That's why when there are holiday's I'm always so excited because I get to come home from school, and usually see my family. If you couldn't already tell, I love my family. You always see people complain about big family events, but I'm 100% the opposite. I count down the days for them in excitement. SO for this Thanksgiving, my cousins, siblings, aunts, uncle, grandparents, and nieces all came over to our house as it was our turn to host. It's always nice to catch up with my Grandparents whom I don't see very often, and of course my Aunts, Uncle, and cousins. It's also always a treat to see my sister, brother-in-law, and nieces. It's crazy how those two little girls can hold such a large place in my heart already! Holiday's at the Palfi household typically looks like this: Cooking, drinking, talking, laughing, eating, talking, laughing, yelling, drinking, laughing. I love being surrounded by my family, and I can honestly say it is one of my happiest places.

On the menu this year was the following; Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, two kinds of stuffing (in the bird and out of the bird), salad, cucumber salad, cream of mushroom and cheese broccoli, truffle oil and onion brussels sprout, red cabbage, pumpkin pie, caramel pecan pear pie, and pumpkin cupcakes with cinnamon cream cheese icing (picture above). Most of these items are a tradition to our big holiday meals, and don't get switched out (my aunt wanted to make leak instead of the brussels sprout... easy to say that change was vetoed).
Overall these are the memories that I savor. I am thankful for the loving, supportive family I have been graced with as well as my amazing friends. I am thankful for the food we were able to eat last night, as well as the food I'm able to eat every day. I'm thankful for my opportunity at education, as hard as it may be, and all the other opportunities I've been blessed with. Overall, I am just very grateful for the amazing life I've been given, and all that is to come!
